Autumn Art Deco Wedding

Wedding Trends come and go, but Art Deco is a timeless style. Allison and John's wedding invitation set showcased rich autumn colors, metallic papers, and a geometric monogram tag. The tag was adhered to a black satin belly band. We also designed a thank you card to match the set. The couple recently celebrated their first anniversary, and for a gift their parents commissioned an illustrated map to match their wedding invitation style.

Backyard Wedding Celebration

Typography focused invitations have been popular this year. It's always fun to see what combinations we can come up with to create fresh designs. Here is Jessica and Dustin's backyard wedding invitation and illustrated direction card, using four fonts and printed on Arturo deckled edge, cotton cards. The gingham ribbon with burlap made a perfect accent for the down-to-earth feeling.

Avon-by-the-Sea Watercolor Wedding Invitations

We created these watercolor invitations for a wedding celebration at the Jersey Shore oceanfront landmark The Columns in Avon-by-the-Sea. The aqua benches on the boardwalk were nice complementary artwork on the rsvp cards.

Wine Label Parody Save the Date

Arturo paper stock can make a great design look even better.  Deckled card edges and the soft texture of the cotton paper perfectly complemented the sketch of the clubhouse at Crystal Springs Resort.  And, of course, we never shy away from a parody.

Cristina & Lloyd's Puerto Rico Wedding Map

Cristina and Lloyd were married May 17th in Puerto Rico, at her grandmother's house (pictured on the map). What made this map a little different than any of our others is that the icons shown and states listed represent all the places from where friends and family traveled to celebrate the wedding. The newlyweds were generous enough to share a photo of how a print of the map was displayed with the seating chart we designed to match.

Architectural Art Deco Save the Date

Vintage architectural details can be very inspirational, and when they translate into a perfect design solution, we are thrilled. The window shape from the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse, the venue for this Art Deco styled wedding, made for a nice way to display the typography.

709 Wedding Show

We recently participated in a Wedding Show at 709 in Point Pleasant. Here are pictures of the menus and table cards we created for the sample tables (themed Beach, Rustic, Art Deco and Cobalt Blue). The lovely flower arrangements and decorations were created by the talented team at Purple Iris Flower Shop, also in Point Pleasant.

Lace and Twine Typography Wedding Invitations

Spring weddings are coming up quickly! We always enjoy having fun with typography. Michele and Michael's invitations are a mix of traditional formal and modern elements, as well as masculine and feminine touches (twine and lace/navy and pink). 

Ranney School Invitations

Here are a couple of designs we completed for the Ranney School: a Save the Date for their annual gala, Panther Ball, and the invitation cover for their annual fashion show, Rock the Runway. 

Golden Retriever Baby Shower

We are often asked to include pets into our clients' work. Here is a recent baby shower invitation design including an illustration the family's Golden Retriever. We had fun designing table cards to match.

International Wedding Map

We recently completed our first international map for clients in Edinburgh, Scotland. The map showcases not only their wedding but some highlights from their history as a couple and their native homes of Colombia/Madrid and Geneva, Switzerland.

Hand-lettered Save the Dates

Happy 2014! Yes, it was a big gap from our last post. If you're interested in seeing our current work more frequently, please check out our Instagram feed here. Here are three new save the date designs we have completed since the fall. Hand-lettering is something we have had an affinity for a long time. In the design world, lettering by hand has increased in popularity over the last couple of years. We couldn't be happier to incorporate it into our work even more often. The top design is our original illustration, and the photo credit for Stacey and Ryan goes to Elena Mitchell. Tricia and Tom's photograph was taken by sister-to-the-bride Lauren.

Classic Avon-by-the-Sea Icons Invitations

Avon-by-the-Sea is a charming Jersey Shore town that is separated from Belmar by the Shark River. For Shannon and Bill's invitations, we created illustrations showcasing the famous jetties that flank both towns where they meet the ocean. Iconically Avon are the old-fashioned lampposts and the blue benches, which anchored the reception and rsvp cards in the set.

Vibrant Ashford Estate Invitations

We are catching up on taking photographs of some of the fun projects we worked on earlier in the year.  From their "The Endless Summer" Save the Date design onward, Amanda and John-Austin wanted bright, fun designs. Their wedding venue, The Ashford Estate, served as inspiration for the bridge illustration on the main piece. We further personalized the set by creating illustrations that included their orchid flower theme, love of the beach and surfing, and dog, Hobie (in an encore appearance from the Save the Date). Wedding Gifts for Mom and Dad

It is not unusual for us to have clients ask us to create portraits as gifts. When our bride-to-be, Shannon, requested  two movie poster parodies to give to her parents as wedding gifts, we were really excited. We have created "Father of the Bride" paintings before, but the "My Cousin Vinny" concept was a new challenge. Shannon and her mother shared a love for the movie for many years. Making the two of them into "Mona Lisa" and "Vinny" (and her older sister into the judge) was pretty amusing.

This is Summer at the Shore

Since summer is finally here this seemed like the perfect illustration for a new post. Jess and Jon will be married on Long Beach Island, New Jersey in September. This illustrated narrative served as the cover for an informational brochure that accompanied their invitation sets. Their story can be gleaned from the various details, but our favorite feature was their charming dog, Bailey.

Ireland-Themed Seating and Table Cards

Occasionally we are asked to revisit certain ideas. We always like to freshen them up. The Irish County road sign table cards concept appealed to our clients Lauren and Ryan, whose April wedding at The Stateroom, Long Beach Island, New Jersey was beautifully shot by Gerald Paguio Photography. We loved seeing the map of Ireland seating cards displayed and captured in such a original and alluring way.

Evolution of a Map

From top left to bottom right: First, a pencil sketch was submitted for approval.
The artwork was drawn onto watercolor paper. Next, masking fluid was applied to areas that
would remain white or later be colored differently than the background.
The aqua background color was painted, then the yellow of the sun.
Acrylic ink was applied on the lettering, allowing for lighter yellow paint
to be applied against the dark background. The sun was touched up with a coral to yellow gradient,
giving the feeling of a Caribbean sunset.

The final painting was used as the cover of a folding card wedding invitation.

RSVP postcard showcased photographs provided by the couple.

Melissa and Kyle are having a Caribbean-themed wedding, and really wanted the island feel to come through in their wedding invitations. Their enthusiasm for the upcoming wedding (and this project) was contagious. We thought it would be different to show the process of how this particular illustrated map came together in stages.
