Map for the Hogan Family. We began working with Katie and Kevin in 2009, when we designed the save the date for their 2010 wedding. Since then, between Katie and Kevin and their extended families, we have completed too many projects to post here. From a custom monogram to wedding invitations and day of the wedding materials to baby showers; wedding gift portraits (Father of the Bride parody) to anniversary portraits to baby portraits; banners to Christmas cards; moving announcements to retirement parties; birthdays to barbecues. We even created books for each of their children, year by year, chronicling the year's events and their growth in illustration. We are now at 11 books and counting! So a map seemed a logical next project, and we were happy to make such a special gift for a wonderful family.

Amanda and Brian's Final Wedding Map

Amanda and Brian are getting married on the beach here in Manasquan next month with a Clambake to follow along Stockton Lake. We used the preliminary sketch for this map for their Save the Date cards. Amanda and Brian's wedding colors lent a whimsical touch, as well as their request for the two lobsters "holding claws."

Gabriella & Domenick's English Estate Wedding

Gaby and Dom will be married this summer in Oxfordshire, England at the the gorgeous Cornbury Park Estate. We created an illustration of the venue for their Save the Dates, which sits at the top of their wedding invitation. An illustrated map of their story was commissioned for use as a fun insert/backside of their Weekend Activities card.

Evolution of a Map

From top left to bottom right: First, a pencil sketch was submitted for approval.
The artwork was drawn onto watercolor paper. Next, masking fluid was applied to areas that
would remain white or later be colored differently than the background.
The aqua background color was painted, then the yellow of the sun.
Acrylic ink was applied on the lettering, allowing for lighter yellow paint
to be applied against the dark background. The sun was touched up with a coral to yellow gradient,
giving the feeling of a Caribbean sunset.

The final painting was used as the cover of a folding card wedding invitation.

RSVP postcard showcased photographs provided by the couple.

Melissa and Kyle are having a Caribbean-themed wedding, and really wanted the island feel to come through in their wedding invitations. Their enthusiasm for the upcoming wedding (and this project) was contagious. We thought it would be different to show the process of how this particular illustrated map came together in stages.

Katrina & Muggy's Wedding Map

We are always interested when clients request a map of a very small geographic region, in this case just a couple of towns. It makes for a more graphic piece, especially accented by their choice of primary colors. We loved the little dog so much we reused him for the front of their RSVP postcard. The two pieces made for a cheerful wedding invitation suite for a fun couple.

Illustrated Map Wedding Present

Amy decided upon an original watercolor map as a surprise wedding gift for Andrew. She presented it to him the morning of their wedding. We loved using the subtle hues they chose as their wedding color scheme for the painting.

Grand Cayman Island Illustrated Map

Monica and Ryan commissioned this map as part of their destination wedding invitations. We enjoyed learning about the island during our research for the project. And of course, the excuse to use bright colors (and lots of them) was a treat!

Annie and Paul's Wedding

The very spirited Annie and Paul were wed a couple of weeks ago. Their personalities and enthusiasm (for not only getting married, but also for this part of the nuptial planning), showed through in this map/parody invitation set. Both Annie and Paul are fans of Broadway, so we designed a logo for their very own show/Playbill cover. A hand-cut cupcake functioned as a reception card, and we used the cupcake icon again on the map, with "Han Solo" and "Princess Leia" cake toppers.

Illustrated Map for Michelle and James

The latest wedding map for a bride and groom who were not afraid to let us have a terrific time putting this together (thanks for the purple, guys!). Michelle and James both sport some incredible tattoo artwork, so the style made sense for their map. This became the cover of their wedding invitation. The lettering for their names was based on that of the old "Palace Amusements" building in Asbury Park.
